Last week I shared some of my favorite fun and playful Halloween decor looks. This week, I wanted to focus on more elegant and sophisticated fall decor outside ideas. These ideas are especially useful as we transition from the lightheartedness of Halloween to the more formal ambience of Thanksgiving.
Whenever I’m looking for inspiration for things beautiful and extravagant, my very first stop is Deer Path Inn. Deer Path Inn is located in the heart of Lake Forest and was just named the #18 Hotel in the World by Travel + Leisure. It is a most fabulous place to stay with one of the most fabulous staffs I have ever experienced. Be sure to check it out if you are ever in the area, whether for dinner or for its accommodations. Its grounds are landscaped by Craig Bergmann whose exceptional designs have won him accolades in his own right.
My brief tour of their gardens provided me with so much inspiration for my own elegant fall decor outside ideas. I’ve included links to products that may be helpful in your design efforts.
Containers are practically a must have for me in any season. In particular, they are the source of my initial fall decor outside ideas. The colors of each container will serve as a striking contrast to the hues of the vegetables and flowers you use as filler. The garden containers will also allow you to vary the height of your displays so that all of the flowers are not at ground level. And the best part about them is that they are easy to clean up at the end of the season. Simply stack bricks inside the container to the appropriate height and then set your store bought plastic container of flowers on top. It will look the same as if you actually repotted the flowers. Then at the end of the season, just lift the container out and dispose of it. Easy and beautiful.
Of course, the more extravagant the home the larger the containers. Deer Path Inn’s containers stun in size, color, and uniqueness. Here are a few finds that give a similar stunning display but that are more appropriately sized for home gardens, patios, and entries.
I must admit that garden statues are my favorite touch in decorating because your personality can shine through. I love displays that are formal but are also not stuffy. Deer Path Inn shines in balancing the elegant with the approachable. This even comes through in their statuary. Is there anything cuter than this proud dog in a pumpkin costume and mask. Have fun with your own garden beds by adding a whimsical touch like this.
What is a fall decor outside display without pumpkins? Deer Path Inn used fun carved pumpkins throughout for Halloween, and I spent hours admiring each one. Although there is nothing better than a real carved pumpkin, I have been frustrated every year as these can rot and animals eat them. I’m a big fan of purchasing the many types of imitation pumpkins that are on the market. These are safer to light, hold up to the elements, and will last you year after year. To carry your display through Thanksgiving, used uncarved versions. Below I found a few amazing products after getting my inspiration from these displays.
I hope these images bring an equal amount of inspiration to your own fall outdoor decor. Also, don’t forget to check out our article on interior fall decor tips and subscribe to A French Tulip Country House!
