Rustic Wreath Ideas

This year, outside decor is going to be more important than ever as we socially distance. Even if we can’t invite our friends and family in, there is nothing more welcoming than a beautiful wreath on your door.

Having spent so much of my life in city apartments, buying my first wreath was very exciting. That first year, I went traditional with winter greens, berries, and a huge red and green bow. This year, I decided to be a little more experimental and chose gorgeous magnolia leaves with a more understated plaid bow. But no matter which way I go, it is very important to me that the wreath reflects its country surroundings and that I choose a rustic wreath look.

Traditional Farmhouse Wreath and Bow Ideas

I have always loved traditional things. Instead of delighting by being different, they delight by being familiar. In no way does that make them boring. These traditional wreaths standout because of the beauty of their branches, depth of color in the berries and fruits, and beauty of the finishing bows. They simply look as if they belong on a farmhouse door. Below are a few of my favorite rustic wreath ideas and bows that would pair beautifully.

More Unique Rustic Wreath Looks

Of course, there is nothing wrong with trying new designs too. After a trip to Charleston, I fell in love with Magnolia leaves. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found this year’s wreath at M on the Square in Lake Forest. Green and brown magnolia leaves make the most beautiful backdrop to the subtle pods and feathers that are interspersed. It was love at first sight and I can hardly wait to hang it on my door.

Below are a few other wreath ideas that are unique in their greenery or accessories. To keep to our rustic wreath theme, I’d suggest pairing these more novel choices with a simple understated ribbon. I have always loved to mix dressy and casual items and have found this works just as well on wreaths as with clothes.
